Students are required to take at least 48 points of engineering content coursework toward their degree. The 48 points is a criterion established by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Taking into consideration the number of engineering content points conferred by the required courses of the BME curriculum, students are advised to complete the remainder of their engineering course work by taking technical electives that are clearly engineering in nature.

At least 15 points of these technical electives must have engineering content, while at least two of the five courses have to be from the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The curriculum prepares students who wish to pursue careers in medicine by satisfying most requirements in the premedical programs with no more than three additional courses. Some of these additional courses may also be counted as nonengineering technical electives. Please see the course tables for schedules leading to a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering.

The following are considered technical elective courses with sufficient engineering content to count towards the 48 units of engineering courses required for ABET-accredited engineering degrees. Always confirm your selection of courses with your advisor before signing up.

with sufficient engineering content

Any course from the following departments is NOT ALLOWED to count towards the 48 units of engineering courses required for ABET-accredited engineering degrees.

Once 48 points of engineering content are satisfied, students may choose any course above the 3000 level in Columbia Engineering as well as biology, chemistry, biotechnology, and biochemistry as non-engineering technical electives.
If the ≥3000-level course course is cross-listed, its eligibility as an engineering content technical elective is determined by the call letters of the first (owning) department in the course name designation. The department owning the course must be ABET accredited to be considered engineering.
For example, APBM E4560 Anatomy for Physicists Engineers does not count an engineering content technical elective, since the course is owned by Applied Physics (and cross-listed with Biomedical Engineering). BMCH E4810 Artificial Organs is counted as an engineering content technical elective, as the course is owned by Biomedical Engineering (and cross-listed with Chemical Engineering).
BME Engineering Technical Electives :
Based on the above for Engineering Technical Electives, a cross-listed course which is ≥3000-level and with BM as its starting call letters will qualify as BME Engineering Technical Electives.

Francesca Gains, Professor of Public Policy and Head of Politics at The University of Manchester gives her view on why the UK has a hung parliament and how this signals a return to two party politics.

The 2017 general election has astonished all, possibly even the courageous pollsters ( Survation ) who called it correctly yesterday.

The two main parties both increased their vote share and together captured82.4%of the votes cast. The election result is being billed as a return to two party politics. But the changes in voting patterns which occurred in this election reflect several very diverse factors.

How can we sum up what has happened over the last two years (and especially the last two months) to have led to a hung Parliament, a deeply wounded Prime Minister and a rejuvenated opposition?

Snap election

Two months ago, in a UK deeply divided by the decade’s long impact of neo liberalism topped with post 2008 austerity measures, and Brexit; and a Scotland also divided over Scottish independence, a Prime Minister with high approval ratings called a snap election.

The UK electorate don’t like snap elections. The Conservative campaign faltered and was almost kamikaze like in introducing proposals on social care which affected its key core support – older voters and especially women. And the Labour opposition (also divided initially) grew in strength and solidarity. With a leader who campaigned well and with deliberate intent to raise turnout especially among the young, with well targeted (but unfunded) promises on abolishing fees for students.

Some key facts:

Taking Bird “vehicles” is an app-based endeavor that costs $1 to start each ride, then 15 cents per minute afterwards.

Thinking of scooting home after last call? Forget it. Bird employees begin tracking them down, charging, and storing them overnight at 8 p.m. The scooters are returned to “nests” at 7 a.m. the following day.

Typically, three Birds roost at each nest. Some property owners agree to host more more, however.

Helmets (like drivers licenses) are required by law and are provided by Bird upon request. Each scooter’s scootin’ capabilities are capped at 15 mph, and they’ll fly about 15 miles per charge. Scooting about ATL for anyone under 18 years old is a no-no.

The company has pledged to remit $1 per scooter, per day, to city governments to help build permanent bike lanes, maintain infrastructure, and promote safety. Per Bird’s estimation, 40 percent of U.S. car trips are less than two miles long.

User commentary on Twitter and elsewhere has offered praise, such as, “These Bird scooters went from nonexistent to a viable form of transit in San Francisco overnight. I’m impressed.”

But the company’s launch hasn’t been without turbulence.

A deep dive by the Ornami Glamour 9ct White Gold White CZ Set Bypass Ring wgiYD
into the Bird phenomenon in February found that opinions of the system varied wildly. Some praised the popular scooters as riotous fun and a sustainable, inexpensive option to cut out traffic.

Criticism has centered on abandoned scooters cluttering sidewalks, the system’s allure for kids too young to rent them, and the potential for scooters to be “a safety nightmare” for novices zipping down busy streets at 15 mph, per the newspaper. As Curbed Los Angeles relayed , police in Santa Monica are now allowed to impound scooters and other “shared mobility devices” that clutter sidewalks.

In Atlanta, the scooter flock isn’t the only alternate-commute system to recently take off.

Since humble beginnings around downtown in 2016, Relay Bike Share has grown to include more than 500 bikes at 60-plus stations spanning from West End to Buckhead’s PATH 400.

The rentable sky-blue bikes have become ubiquitous around Atlanta. Could chargeable scooters follow a similar flight pattern?
